Egypt, Sudan Optimistic Dam Talks With Ethiopia Will Yield Fruits

This comes after the prime ministers of Sudan and Egypt expressed optimism after talks in the Sudanese capital that stalled negotiations with Ethiopia on its construction of a controversial giant dam on the Blue Nile would bear fruits. The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, which is being built some 15km (9 miles) from Ethiopia's border with Sudan, has become a significant source of discord between the three countries. The man who allegedly hacked his wife, a nurse at International Hospital Kampala (IHK) to death and went into hiding, was arrested on Thursday by security operatives attached to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit. Simon Shimanyi allegedly hacked his late wife, Viola Kakai, in the wee hours of August 2, 2020, at their home in Kitezi, Wakiso district, before he went into hiding. The gruesome act was done in the presence of the couple's children. Bank of Uganda Names Banks with Lowest Interest Rates.

By Keefa Nuwahereza Bank of Uganda has named commercial banks charged borrowers lowest rates between January and June 2020, effectively making them the cheapest lenders for debtors to run to. Absa bank, Baroda, Bank of India, Citibank, Ecobank, NC Bank, Stanbic Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, United Bank of Africa, and Exim Bank kept their lending rates below industry average in the first six months of the year according to the Bank of Uganda’s monetary policy report for August 2020. In January 2020, the industry average lending rates were at 20.06 percent and it had dropped to 17.2 percent in June. Citibank had the cheapest rate consistently below 15 percent. By Keefa Nuwahereza Untold fear is mounting in the country as Coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths are increasing and according to the Ministry of Health the country has so far registered 12 deaths. According to the Ministry of the Health the latest victim is a 65-year-old male, a resident of Kampala. He was admitted in Nsambya hospital and later transferred to China-Uganda Friendship hospital after developing signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19. Samples from the deceased which were taken by Ministry of Health Officials for testing at Uganda Virus Institute tested positive of COVID-19. The Central Doctors' Committee said in a statement on Wednesday that about 90 others were wounded in the fighting that began on Sunday between members of the Bani Amer and Nuba ethnic groups in Port Sudan, a key international trade harbour on the Red Sea.
