UPDF Appoints Gen. Mugira To Head Chopper Crash Investigation

By Elite Reporter The Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) has tasked  Lt. Gen. James Mugira with the role heading  investigations in what caused the crash of UPDAF helicopter Jet Ranger AF 302, in Bulo, Gomba District on January 28, 2020, and killed two military officers. Maj. Naomi Karungi, who was the only female pilot in the military and cadet pilot Benon Wakalo, perished in the chopper crash that has since sparked off many unanswered questions.Karungi and Wakalo were buried last week and the army described them as patriotic and hardworking. By Keefa Nuwahereza A very unusual phenomenon in Africa has occurred after  the Constitutional Court in Malawi on Monday nullified the results of last year’s presidential election, citing “widespread, systematic and grave” irregularities, including significant use of correction fluid to alter results from polling stations. Court also ruled that fresh elections should be organised and as such, a new vote will be held within 150 days. Moi's death was announced on Tuesday morning by President Uhuru Kenyatta, who sent his condolences to the family. Moi has been in and out of hospital in the past years according to family members, battling a longtime bout of cancer.It should be recalled that Moi became president as a result of the death of then president Mzee Jomo Kenyatta in 1978.Through popular agitation and external pressures, he was forced to allow multiparty elections in 1991; he led his party, KANU, to victory in the 1992 and 1997 elections. By Elite Reporter The Confederation of African Football associations (CAF) Executive Committee has voted not to renew the mandate of FIFA's secretary general Fatma Samoura, who had been working as General Delegate for Africa for the past six months. Samoura was given the role from 1 August 2019 by football's world body following a reported request by CAF. FIFA confirmed that Samoura's mandate had come to an end on 1 February 2020 and that the global body's six-month mission in Africa had been "completed successfully."
