Female candidates have performed better than boys in last year’s Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams, Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) has revealed. The national examination board has been observing this trend for the last four consecutive years, raising eyebrows and drawing attention to the changing dynamics in education in the country. The Executive Director of UNEB, Daniel Odongo, said that a total of 96, 557 candidates sat for UACE, with 40, 219 of them being female and 56, 023 being male. But despite female candidates being fewer than the boys, they performed better. Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) has said it will continue with its awareness drives among members of the public as one of the ways to narrow the awareness gap in insurance acceptance. Speaking during the launch of the insurance week at the Railway grounds, IRA Chief Executive Office Alhaji Kaddunabbi Ibrahim Lubega said they have for several years been carrying out awareness drives but said these will continue. “We have taken several steps to narrow the awareness gap in the insurance sector but fundamentally, as a regulator we have improved and increased our budget to move to the entire country at different levels. The National Resistance Movement (NRM) secretary general, Richard Todwong has fortified the party’s decision to back Philip Oucor, their candidate in the recently concluded Serere County by-election. Earlier to the election, over 250 NRM leaders from Serere district had asked the party top executive to front and back Emmanuel Omoding, the son to the late MP Patrick Okabe in the by-election, but the party preferred Oucor. After seven (7) months of heavy preparation, Huawei's Sub Saharan Africa Regional ICT Competition was successfully held on 22nd February, 2023. The competition attracted over 16,000 registered from over 500 institutions. At least 16 countries in the region participated in the competitions whereby Team Uganda was represented by Makerere University, Kyambogo University, Gulu, Kabale Muni University. During the competition, Team Uganda (Makerere University) scooped the grand prize in computing track and also managed to win the first prize in Network track, while Kyambogo University scooped second. Today, at MWC Barcelona 2023, Botswana's Debswana and Huawei jointly announced the world's first 5G-oriented smart diamond mine project. Debswana's Head of Information Management Molemisi Nelson Sechaba said that the Huawei-enabled smart mine solution has been deployed at Debswana's Jwaneng open-pit diamond mine, and the project started operation in December 2021. Huawei's 4G eLTE private network solution provides stable connectivity for the Jwaneng mine, connecting more than 260 pieces of equipment, including drilling rigs, excavators, heavy trucks, and pickup trucks. A Primary school teacher has drowned in water as he struggled to swim back to the dock at Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale district. The Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman ASP Elly Maate identified the deceased as Ochet Christopher 27, a teacher at Genesis Nursery and primary school Kekubo in Kabale Municipality. The incident happened on Sunday 26th Feb 2023 at around 7:30Am after the deceased signed out with some pupils for morning jogging up to the lake and later opted to swim but on his way back to the Dock, he failed to make it to the shore.
