NUP MPs to pay 1 million each off 200m to Build Party Headquarters

National Unity Platform (NUP) has revealed that at least Shs1 million will be slashed off from each of party MP’s Shs200 Million received from government to buy brand new cars. The party said the money will go to the party to facilitate a string of services which include the construction of party offices. While speaking to press, opposition Chief Whip, Mr John Baptist Nambeshe indicated that the NUP party lawmakers had voluntarily resolved to commit at least Shs1M to finance activities. “The members themselves so wished that as a party that is leading in Parliament and is hardly a year-old in Parliament, we need to demonstrate maturity by acquiring own property. And for that reason therefore we resolved that this fundraising be done,” Mr Nambeshe said.

Several residents in Kamwokya are counting losses after a fire gutted several makeshift houses this evening, destroying property worth millions of shillings. The fire reportedly started at about 7 pm when the majority of the occupants were still vending along Northern Bypass. Attempts to save household items were unsuccessful as the blazing flames sent neighbours scampering for their lives. The fire brigade trucks arrived moments later but could not gain access to the blazing structures as the place is congested with so many buildings and a swamp. Rukungiri - The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu has appointed Rt Rev. Patrick Tugume Tusingwire as the caretaker Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese in Rukungiri district following the death of Bishop Benon Magezi. Bishop Magezi succumbed to COVID 19 on Tuesday at Mulago National Referral Hospital.  Archbishop Kaziimba has made the announcement during the burial of the Rt. Rev. Benon Magezi at Emmanuel Cathedral, Rukungiri. Jeje Odongo has said that social media platforms such as FaceBook, Twitter, YouTube and Whatsup will remain blocked until they are no longer a threat to the National Security.
