When the Türkiye-Syria earthquake struck the region, families and friends were killed, homes were destroyed, and people were displaced yet again. In parallel to the much-needed relief efforts, for the past 12 years, the ICRC has worked to prevent the collapse of critical infrastructure so that communities maintain at least minimal access to essential services such as safe water and health c...

Sixteen states in Nigeria on Wednesday asked the Supreme Court to force the central bank to extend by six months the use of old banknotes, whose withdrawal from circulation has caused cash shortages and angered citizens ahead of weekend elections. In a country where most people rely on cash for everything from taxi fares to buying food from markets, the shortages of naira bills have riled citizens, some of whom have attacked banks and burned cash-dispensing machines. President Muhammadu Buhari’s government has defended the central bank plan to withdraw old 1,000 ($2.17), 500 and 200 naira bills to make way for new notes, saying it would curb money laundering and kidnappings for ransom, and offer greater transparency in financial transactions. But the move has caused rifts within his ruling...

The former presenter, however, has given the word a twist in relation to its original meaning. According to Fabiola, who recently wed Mark Ronald Mubiru in a lavish ceremony in Kigo, any woman who has a wealthy man as a romantic interest is a woman with standards. “If you haven’t been called a gold digger at least three times, then your standards are low,” she captioned a video on TikTok. “We only accept princess treatment all year round with no apologies,” she added. Given that her husband Mark can afford to support her lavish lifestyle, this may be confirmation that Fabio...
