MTN Restores 50 Hectares of Forest cover in Arua as it continues to Deepen its Roots in Uganda

• MTN has today embarked on restoring 50 hectares of forest cover in Enjeva CFR in Arua as it further deepens its roots in Uganda, in its ambitious project of restoring 220 hectares of forest cover across the country. • The reforestation project that shall restore forest cover in 5 Central Forest Reserves (CFRs) in 5 districts across the country is a precursor of the company’s listing of 20% of its shares on the Uganda Stock Exchange, an opportunity for Ugandans to own a part of MTN. • The reforestation drive is part of MTN’s “Uganda is Home” campaign which was launched last month in Entebbe where the Telecom restored 20 hectares of forest cover in Kyewaga CFR and 50 hectares in Jubiya CFR in Masaka last week. The government through the Office of the Prime Minister plans to resettle over 2000 people displaced by floods in Bbaale County Kayunga district resulting from the rising water levels in Lake Kyoga and River Ssezibwa. The most affected people are from Ntimba, Kawongo landing, Kampatanya, Kyedikyo in Galiraya sub-county, where all people's gardens and houses were submerged by water The road that leads to Kawongo Landing site was cut off, one has to use a 45 minutes boat cruise in order to access the landing site. Residents say it's very expensive because there is only one boat that was provided by the district and it's not for free, other boats are privately owned and they charge highly.
