As the 2021 general election looms nearer, politicians have started defecting from their parties to join others which they hope will help them get elected into political offices next year.
The most recent defector is Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) stalwart James Birungi Ozo, who has since defected to the ruling National Resistance Movement.
Ozo, who has served the FDC in various capacities in past years, now wants to contest for the Kibale County Member of Parliament on NRM ticket.
Ozo, who was the coordinator of Peoples Government in Tooro region and FDC district chairman Kamwenge, crossed to NRM with more than 50 party supporters.
He was received by the minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire who welcomed him into the NRM fold.
Otafiire urged NRM supporters to give Ozo and other defectors all the help they need, saying they should not look at them as a threat.
Ozo said he defected from the FDC following pressure from his supporters in Kamwenge.
“The people of Kamwenge are largely NRM supporters and they told me I will be isolated if I remain in FDC,” he said.
Ozo has thrice competed against Frank Tumwebaze, the minister for ICT for the Kibale County seat losing on all three occasions.
